PPL’s companies are also addressing challenges head-on by investing in new infrastructure and technology that is creating a smarter, more reliable and resilient energy grid. We are committed to doing our part to advance a cleaner energy future and drive innovation that enables us to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 while maintaining energy reliability and affordability for the customers and communities we serve. Overview

The energy industry is evolving, and PPL is helping to shape how the future will look.   The front line of this transformation is in the legislature, regulatory agencies, and through community relations.  To support this, PPL is looking for a Regulatory Policy Intern who can help us dive into research, evaluation, and development of ideas and initiatives such as approaches to addressing increasing electric system demands, the transition to a cleaner energy grid, resource adequacy concerns, and alternative ratemaking.  This research and support will help support future plan and strategy development and serve as the foundation for conversations with key internal and external stakeholders. We'd love to have you on board as we tackle these exciting and interesting challenges.

As an intern, you will be assigned to a Supervisor as well as a Coach/Mentor.  You will be assigned day-to-day tasks as well as a project that will last the duration of your assignment.  The project may be a team effort or individual.   At the end of your internship, you will present to a team of PPL leaders the results of your project and overall summary of your experience.

This is a hybrid position (2-3 days per week in the office). Travel to the state government relations office in Harrisburg and other locations throughout our service territory will be required. This position is located in Allentown, PA.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in: Public Policy, Political Science, Pre-law, Sustainability/Environmental Studies, Economics, or a related field.

Responsibilities

The PPL Regulatory Policy Intern will be engaged in researching and analyzing various issues facing the company and its customers currently and into the near-term.  The Intern will engage with members of the Regulatory Affairs team and dive into the nuances of issues facing the company.  This role will provide the opportunity to identify potential solutions to overcome identified challenges and maximize opportunities, ultimately developing strategies and initiatives that can be built upon in future regulatory filings or when engaging with lawmakers and regulators. Potential topics include: increased electric system demands, resource adequacy, distributed energy resource management, and utility ratemaking.

More broadly, the Intern will:

  • learn about the electric sector, energy industry, and the PPL Electric Utilities business;
  • learn about the regulatory framework for PPL Electric Utilities, including the efforts and initiatives impacting the company and how a utility makes money;
  • understand the broader reach PPL Electric has on regulatory and community relations; and
  • provide a meaningful, useful product or contribution that PPL Electric can leverage and build upon going forward. The completed work will provide meaningful take-aways for the Intern to continue their collegiate career and future employment opportunities.
